Dynamic Cables & Risers
Configures and checks dynamic power cables, umbilicals and flexible risers.
What this expert provides
The Dynamic Cables & Risers expert designs the configuration of a dynamic power cable, umbilical or flexible riser hanging from a floating unit: free-hanging catenary or lazy wave, the length, the buoyancy section and the touchdown, and checks it against bend radius, tension, touchdown and clearance limits at the mean and offset positions.
Expert Profile
A quasi-static cable engine solves the hanging shape with current drag and stretch, searches catenary and lazy-wave designs, and gives the allowable vessel offsets for the mooring expert. The drawing shows the shape at the mean, near and far positions. Works from DNV-ST-0359, DNV-RP-F401, API RP 17B and ISO 13628-11 practice; dynamic and fatigue analysis are routed to OrcaFlex.
Key Capabilities
- Catenary and lazy-wave configuration with a design search
- Bend radius, tension, touchdown, hog and sag clearance checks
- Allowable near and far offsets handed to the mooring design
- Current and stretch in the hanging shape
- Drawing and scene file of the cable at mean and offset positions
